WWRY Official Opening Night Friday 26th Oct
and Premier night Sat 27th Oct Civic Theatre Auckland

Friday 26th October, the first night of We Will Rock You New Zealand. The audience was ready, the lights dimmed and the eerie start to Innuendo began. This preview show had a few technological bugs that they were still working out but with such a talented cast including New Zealand’s own princess Annie Crummer as Killer Queen, MiG Ayesa as Galileo, Talia Kodesh as Scaramouche and many others the audience didn’t care. The entire cast was fantastic and provided excellent entertainment for the audience. During the interval it was all raves about the show, not one person had something bad to say about it.
I was fortunate to also attend the press night which was the Saturday night. With the beautiful Civic Theatre packed the performance was extremely memorable with people laughing at the jokes about New Zealand, wanting to rebel with the Bohemians and almost crying when a slideshow of famous musicians who had passed was played with ‘No one but you’.
Having seen the show numerous times there had been some changes to the show which just added to the experience if you have seen it before.
The New Zealanders loved Annie (you could tell by the applause she got every time she came on stage) who was fantastic with her powerful singing voice which blew people away. MiG was an amazing Galileo again with a powerful voice, fantastic dance moves and silly jokes was a joy to watch perform. Talia with her snide remarks and angelic voice made her stand out from the rest of the cast. Some of the other brilliant cast members include Neels Clasen as Khashoggi, Malcolm Teerey as Pop, Stephen John Van Niekerk as Britney and Carly Grame as Oz. Each brought their own unique style to the show.
Overall I was thoroughly impressed with the show and enjoyed it immensely. I urge anyone who can to see the show which will be playing until the 2nd December at the Civic Theatre in Auckland.
Tickets
