The Queen and Ben Elton stage extravaganza We Will Rock You has blown
New Zealand’s minds since it opened just over a week ago.
Producers of the multi-million show at Auckland’s The Civic, The Edge
theatre have extended the season to December 2 but warn: there is no further
extension possible.
14,000 new seats have gone on sale with Ticketek but once they’re gone,
sadly, there will be no more as the cast prepares to move on to Seoul in Korea.
"We've had wonderful crowds," says
promoter James Cundall of Lunchbox Theatrical Productions. "People standing,
cheering, waving, singing. This season is electrifying but we really must
go come December 2 so I urge those thinking about going to get their tickets
before it's too late."
"We
Will Rock You has raised the bar for musical theatre! A rage of ecstatic proportions
that lifts you out of your
emotional glum and propells you to galactic entertainment heights. The cast
is superb and dynamic and ebullient from curtain rise to curtain fall.
Make it your mission to get there!" Heemi Hill, Easy Mix FM
WE WILL ROCK YOU stars our own princess of pop Annie Crummer as the KILLER
QUEEN and Rock Star INXS finalist Miguel Ayesa, who is reprising his West
End triumph as GALILEO. Annie is no stranger to this role, having played it
in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Japan.
WE WILL ROCK YOU is not a Queen tribute but a “rock theatre” experience
featuring 24 of Queen’s greatest hits, including “Bohemian Rhapsody,”
“We Are The Champions,” “Another One Bites The Dust”
and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”
WE WILL ROCK YOU is a futurist adventure set in a time when live music is
banned on earth, but the kids are in rebellion, fighting against the all powerful
Globalsoft Corporation which controls their lives and feeds them a diet of
synthesized pop. A hero is needed who can help them rediscover themselves
– and live music. Could the arrival of ‘The Dreamer,’ the
young Galileo Figaro, be that man? And can he help them break their chains...?
WE WILL ROCK YOU delivers a show that reflects the scale
and spectacle that marked Queen’s live performances and earned the band
its pinnacle position in rock history. It’s big. The show has nine semi
trailors of equipment including state of the art video. And it has a creative
team who work closely with Queen’s BRIAN MAY and ROGER TAYLOR. (Annie
Crummer recorded Another One Bites the Dust in London under the direction
of Brian and Roger).
“Annie is one hell of a singer! A voice in a million.’ says WE
WILL ROCK YOU writer/director Ben Elton, who, with Queen’s Brian May
and Roger Taylor, cast Annie in the role of Killer Queen.
WE WILL ROCK YOU continues to play to sold-out houses at London’s Dominion
Theatre where it has been running since May 2002, and in 2006 became the longest-running
musical ever to play at the Dominion, one of the West End’s largest
theatres. It recently opened to record advances in Toronto. In addition to
an ongoing Spanish-language touring production in Spain, WE WILL ROCK YOU
also continues to break box office records in Germany, where it is the number
one grossing musical of all time. Globally, more than 6 million people have
now seen the show.
‘This is a new breed of musical,’ says James Cundall, co-producer
with David Atkins. ‘A unique collaboration between the legends of rock
and one of the U.K.’s most phenomenally successful writers, Ben Elton.
It’s just celebrated its fifth year in London’s biggest theatre,
and every night –as it has since its beginning – WE WILL ROCK
YOU is getting five-minute standing ovations.’

Homegrown Annie Crummer is the talk of the town after the opening of We
Will Rock You - the acclaimed musical by the surviving members of English
super group Queen and writer Ben Elton.
The show is playing at the Civic Theatre until November 11 and stars Crummer - who grew up in Avondale, in the role of Killer Queen.
Crummer was born in 1966 and first came to prominence in 1986 singing a duet with Malcolm Black on the Netherworld Dancing Toys song, For Today.
She was also part of the chart topping all-women vocal group When the Cat's Away with Debbie Harwood, Kim Willoughby and former Blockhouse Bay resident Margaret Urlich.
Their single, Melting Pot, went to No. 1 in 1988 and they won group of the year at the 1989 New Zealand Music Awards.
Crummer, who has released two solo albums, made headlines earlier this year after being asked to record a remake of Another One Bites the Dust - a huge hit made famous by Queen during the 1980s.
Queen came to a grinding halt after the death of charismatic frontman Freddy Mercury in 1991.
Original members Brian May and Roger Taylor are still kept involved with various musical projects including their collaboration with Elton on We Will Rock You.
It was through the stage show that they spotted Crummer's talent and asked to her to join them on the separate recording project.
Crummer has been involved with the multi-million-dollar musical since it started touring the world in 2002.
She stars alongside Rock Star INXS finalist Miguel Ayesa and a cast of nearly 30 performers.
We Will Rock You is set in the year 2350 when live music is banned on Earth, but the kids are in rebellion, fighting against the all-powerful Globalsoft Corporation which controls their lives and feeds them a diet of synthesised pop.
It features 24 of Queen's legendary hits including Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, Radio Ga Ga and Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

It was like a minute ago, Wally Gonzalez and Pepe Smith (of the legendary Juan dela Cruz band) were in my home/studio horsing around while signing my Chinese-made Fender strat (now it's worth something). It was an awesome gig in Sydney on Oct 13 '06. Hey, look at these old guys. Rakenrol!
