My rabbits are finally better!

Well as some of you know - my rabbit Freddie had a sore eye for some time.  I tried to get it treated up here in the country but the country vets did not specialise in rabbits beyond giving them a general check up and a vaccine each year.  So after 6 weeks of treatment from the local vets here for an eye infection - that was just getting worse.  They decided that the eye had to be removed.  I was not happy with their diagnosis and the eye specialist was due to come up to my vets place from Melbourne that week but had cancelled.  So they gave me two options - take Freddie to the eye specialist down in Melbourne or go to a rabbit exotic vet at the animal hospital in Hallam down in Melbourne.  I had tried to find an exotic vet for some time as I had to get my bunnies spade also and was scared to let the local vets hack and slash their balls up.  So anyway cut a long story short - I took the bunnies last Saturday to exotic vet and she spade them both and also gave some last strategy medicine blast treatment to his eye.  I have just finished the treatment this week and also had Freddie check this week with the local vet up here.  He had to test to see if the ulcerated cornea had cleared up.  The test came back positive that the eye ulcer had cleared up.  The local vet had to consult with the Melbourne exotic vet that treated Freddie on the weekend during this visit.  They decided that the eye did not have to be removed and I nearly cried when the vet told me his eye can stay. I was so relieved after all that effort and constant two hours of treating his eye with the medication for the past 4 days from myself worked.  I was so grateful to the exotic vet in Melbourne and it just goes to show how different vets can be out there.  If anything serious happens to the rabbits like this again I will just take them straight to the animal hospital in Melbourne (btw they have an ambulance for animals only down at the animal hospital).

Freddie and Roger are now fully recovered from their balls getting the snip - and they are back out there running around in their outdoor run.  They are much happier to be let out of the indoor area I had to keep them in all this week.
